The Wemple’s Pumpkin Patch began in 1994 with a dream. Not knowing how it would happen, we planted the pumpkins, and Fred went hunting. We planted the pumpkins and they grew well and people came from all around. Needless to say, that was the last year Fred went hunting in October or the two months prior to.
It is our family tradition to plant pumpkins on or around Mother’s Day. We plant around 47 varieties of pumpkins, 26 varieties of squash, and 15 varieties of gourds. Every year it is fun to try and find a new variety of pumpkin or squash to try to grow. Of our pumpkins, we have our favorites that we like to cook with. Our Pumpkin Pie is made of our very own Long Island Cheese pumpkin.
The original pumpkin planter was built by Fred and later updated by Fred and Matt to include the drip tape for irrigation. The last few years we have used drip irrigation which goes in the ground as we plant. Over the years things have adapted and changed as the times and technology do. We have our cultivator that was created and built by Matt and Fred and is driven by one person and ran by the other.
